longest post of my life...get ready!

i first want to say how overwhelmed i am just thinking about starting this post, i have been waiting all day to post what i have to say and now that i'm about to do it i don't know if i can handle it. yesterday, september 1st 2008 can easily be said to be one of my favorite days. it had everything a perfect day would consist of: art, music, volunteering, meeting new people, free food, making tshirts...etc. i began my day by driving over to steph and rob's apt which when i got there they had on a dvd of cool music videos directed by Michel Gondry then ate breakfast burritos and banana/blueberry smoothies for breakfast then headed on our way to Bumbershoot{seattle's art and music festival} i had never been to bumbershoot till yesterday so i was eager to go, volunteer at a booth and the reason for being there, go to the Death Cab concert that night. we volunteered at the ReadyMade magazine booth, the magazine that helped sponsor the Indie Market that is at the festival. as soon as we got there at 11am we were put to work. the booth was not only selling $5 year subscriptions to ReadyMade, but also for $15 you could make a tshirt{i am pretty sure we had the coolest booth at the festival} rob stayed and helped with the tshirt part while stephanie and i were to go down Fisher Pavilion and sell the subscriptions to the vendors. i had no idea what my eyes were about to see, i large room FILLED with different artists{mostly screen printing} and their poster designs or other pieces of screen printing type art{a graphic designer like me's heaven}. i walked around wondering why i had never come to Bumbershoot before and asking myself "where has this been all my life!" we got to talk to all the artists in there and about 85% of them wanted to buy the subscription. the thing about the ReadyMade magazine is it is very popular among artists because it is a magazine about "do it yourself" art, features artists and showcases a variety of art. so if the artist/vendor didn't want to buy the magazine subscription it was mostly because they had it already, but even then they would renew with us. it was great, they were all so nice and steph and i had such a great time talking to them and looking at their art. after we finished in the pavilion we had VIP {free} lunch{oh and we had to show i.d to get in there and to make sure it was really me the guard had me smile so he could check to see my dimple..hah} on top of the pavilion that over looked on of the stages so i got to watch some pretty horrible rap singers preform while i ate nachos. after that steph and i grabbed more magazines{they also got a free aug/sept mag too...and let me just say i thought my wrist was going to break off the whole day from holding the mags} and went down to the vendors at the Indie Market, where we meet more great and nice artists. oh and let me just tell you the whole time i was taking business cards{i already collect interesting business cards for ideas} because not only did i love their art, but their cards were designed so cool. i freaked out{cuz i love etsy} when i saw the etsy tent and the people in there loved steph and i because we were from ReadyMade. while we were finishing up the Indie Market we heard Paramore start to play on the main stage so we headed over there to hear them preform a few songs then went back to work. after that we went and got rob and we headed down to see/hear Dan Deacon, probably the best part of the day! after that i bought some cool homemade rings and buttons and then we headed over to hear Offspring play. after that we went back to the booth to help people make their tshirts. they had these GREAT stencils and i know what you are thinking "stencils?" but these were the coolest stencils i had ever seen. go here to look at and BUY...seriously. we helped out there for a few hours then we had VIP{we felt so cool getting free food} dinner and while we ate we watched a really cool Indian band playing down below. then we helped out with the tshirts again which was so fun! those working the booth and those that came in were so nice, it was so great to interact with people all day. so it came time to head over to the Death Cab concert. we had great seats and oh man, it was so great! they sounded so good{apparently the sound wasn't that good according to rob who knows about sound, but for me it sounded great}. they played a few of my favorites so i was pleased, but then we left an hour into it to head home. seriously such a great day full and literally full of beautiful people, music and art. at the end of the day i decided that i really could do art all day{i think i already knew that} but i realized that i really love surrounding myself with art and being there gave me such a burst of excitement to start up my art again! here are some highlights from the day.

Rob helping people make tshirts, next to him is Becca who is rob's friend that works with ReadyMade and got us there to volunteer

I am jealous. It sounds so fun. The funny thing is I read your blog and was thinking, "Wow I need to check out that mag." But then I had to run off to the dentist. And sure enough there was a copy on the table just waiting for me to read it. It looks like a good one. I need to order it!!! I loved those business cards as well. I checked out those stencils too. I would love the birch tree ones for my room!!

Monica. Your day sounds incredible. I already wanted to be a bumbershoot, but reading what you said about it makes me wonder why I didn't just buy a plane ticket and fly out there?

So in three years, we have a bumbershoot date, yes?
